Just watched To Kill A Mockingbird. After having read the book I was worried this would disappoint. Boy was I wrong! Probably the best adaption of a novel I've ever seen. Powerful, moving and funny. This is pure cinema.

Up and (500) Days of Summer are both probably in my top 5 favorite movies of last year!
I had to study To Kill A Mockingbird (the book) a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it, but got pretty sick of it after reading it 3 or 4 times. The movie is excellent though.

The week I've watched:
Double Indemnity.
Lovely lovely noir. A very cool and enjoyable film. 8/10
Shadow of a Doubt.
I've yet to see a Hitchcock film I didn't like, but this isn't his very best. Tense and exciting, but the kids are damn annoying. 7/10
Das Boot.
No doubt a masterpiece on many levels, but the extended running time drags things out for too long. The third act is fantastic though. 7/10
Good Will Hunting.
Heartwarming stuff. Some good laughs, a few emotional pangs and generally good acting. 8/10
M.
Remastered on blu-ray, this looked amazing. Sadly, it doesn't feel as fresh as Lang's other film, Metropolis, but nevertheless builds up to a mind blowing finale. 8/10
The Road.
A very faithful adaption of a masterful novel, it sadly suffers slightly from the boy being not quite up to scratch. Viggo delivers the goods though, and some scenes are expertly directed. 8/10
Gone With The Wind
Is there really anything left to say about this classic that hasn't yet been said? Beautiful film. 9/10

The Thin Red Line really is fucking extraordinary.
The Score is hugely average with a great cast, Brando is outshone by Deniro who is outshone by Norton.
Near Dark is a weird combination of Twilight and Mad Max, with some wonderful framing and cinematography. Bill Paxton is the highlight though.
21 Grams is stunning.
The Crucible, makes Winnona Ryder look fucking hot in 18th centure get up. Daniel Day Lewis is great. As always.
The Big Lebowski is much, much funnier than i remember.
Requiem for a Dream is, like, a great film.
On The Waterfront. Its great when you see a genuine master of the cinema strutting their stuff, im taking about Kazan... but we get to see Brando's tour deforce in this.

Kick Ass is fantastic. Reall, really impressed, better than the comic. Aaron Johnson is great, the girl who plays his beau is gorgeous.
OH, and Nicholas Cage has made his best film in years, Bad Liutennant should be amazing.

Nick Cage's Adam West voice completely made it for me.
Really fantastic, mocking stupid comic book films whilst being the definitive stupid comic book film

Went to see it yesterday, and again today! It's so awesome. I had no idea Aaron Johnson was British...He's also only 19 and marrying the 40-something year old director of Nowhere Boy. Strange. But he did really well in this, great fun movie, and the Adam West gag was hilarious.

Aaron Johnson was a complete ass on FNWJR last night, so unlikeable. Can't wait to see Kick Ass, though.

I completely agree with you, he was so boring. I mean Jonathan Ross is a bit of a twat but y'know you'd expect him to want to make a good impression seeing as a shit load of people watch it.Black Suede wrote:Aaron Johnson was a complete ass on FNWJR last night, so unlikeable. Re: Recently Viewed Films - Reviewed
Yeah, he was a little odd. He looked all uncofortable, i give him the benefit of the doubt...he was all nervous?
Kick Ass is great though.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if he was just nervous, on drugs, or just an ass.
Could be all three. lul
I noticed from the first moment Jonathan first introduced him that he was going to be a problem.
Tina Fey was great, even though she's about the age of my Mum, I still think I would do her.

Morte a Venezia (Death In Venice) 1971 Italian flick by Luchino Visconti.
The most definitive piece of evidence yet that certain films should be heralded as pieces of art. Each shot is constructed so perfectly (In panavision, and 80% in Deep Focus!!) that 4 or 5 shots resemble the best that the "higher" arts have ever given us.
Movie is a bit muddled, appearing confused as to what exactly it wants to be? Standard melodrama fare, unrequited love, moral exploration of homosexuality?
Whatever, its wonderfully interesting and paced as to make it dreamlike in the best possible way. HIghly reccomended, but dont judge it immediately, it takes time to settle, and you man wanna have a discussion after (certainly added to my enjoyment of it) and dont forget to gasp at the pretty parts
