Re: Now Playing
You see, I was worried I'd feel that way too. But after hearing That Golden Rule, Know Your Quarry, and Cloud of Stink... well, my apprehensions were eased.
Mountains is a decent song but it ruins the flow of the album. It should've been stuck at the end as a bonus track so the label could still stick a 'INCLUDEZ MOUNTAIIIINS' sticker on the front. Once An Empire should've been at track 6, best Biffy b-side since Scared of Lots of Everything.

Re: Now Playing
I've never understood the scorn BMTH get. I mean, yes, they're pretty bad, but why do so many people insist on getting so vitriolic about it?
I'm probably biased because I'd happily shag the living daylights out of the lead singer, but my overall point is that I don't see why people get so offensive/defensive over musical artists. Oh well.
In Raine's Aural news, I've mostly been listening to Devin Townsend. I took a break to listen to the new Velvet Acid Christ, which was dull and was promptly deleted, before resuming the Dev addiction (If you see what I did there, I salute you)
In surprising news, I'm quite taken with the new Lady Gaga video. The music is bland and the lyrics are complete gobbledegook, but it's nice to look at.

Re: Now Playing
I know this girl in my English class who knows the lead singer pretty well and put it this way he understands his target audience has very little respect for them and loves making lots of money out of them. Thirteen year old girls are easily persuaded that the music is "cool".
Re: Now Playing
He wouldn't be the first or the last artist to do that. Young girls and teenage gays are always the easiest targets for demographic exploitation.
I was going to add more, but I opened one or two tabs and lost my train of thought...
Back to Ziltoid the Omniscient I go.

Scarlett Johansson's album is surprisingly excellent. Particularly "Falling Down" "Anywhere i lay my head" and "Fanin Street"

I haven't heard it, but I've always wondered how well she'd pull it off. Tom Waits is awesome, so maybe I was slightly scared she'd ruin him for me.

Well, he is brillliant, but her voices is surprisingly well suited to it. It's a wonderful ambum of covers, and "Song for Jo" the only original song, is really great. Im excited to see about the second one, which has been delayed beause of Iron Man 2... but yeah.
And guys, she's smoking hot.

I've never been able to 'do' cover albums. I don't know what it is, I mean I love a good cover every now and then, but albums full of them... argh!

Re: Now Playing
I'm listening to a cover album right now. "These Eyes Before" by Collide. 10 tracks in typical Collide style.
The only thing I dislike is that they're too much of a cover, even musically they sound similar, which is a shame as previous Collide covers have only had the lyrics in common.
Trying to electronically recreate Comfortably Numb and Creep note for note doesn't really work.
As usual, kaRIN's voice and delivery are excellent but the music is a bit on the bland and easy side. Still, it's only 10 tracks long, so it doesn't outstay its welcome, and Space Oddity is definitely the stand out track.

What style of music are they?
I'm listening to Brother Ali - House Keys of the 'US' album. One of the best rap albums to be released in a long time imo, with the exception of Raekwon's latest, which is an absolute classic already. Anyone who liked early Wu Tang stuff this is similar but so much better.

Re: Now Playing
They're frequently described as 'Electrogoth', though I have no idea what the hell that's supposed to mean. They're more trip-rock and darkwave if we've got to put silly labels on things.
The thing that sets them apart is the singer, kaRIN. She's not a particularly powerful vocalist, she's a lot more breathy and ethereal, pretty subdued yet strong enough to rise above the music, which is often sonically very dense and layered, though she can get drowned out when the music gets heavy.
They've got such an expansive discography (and side projects adding to that) that I'm not sure where to tell you to begin if you want to listen to them, so I'll throw some song titles out. Violet's Dance, Beneath The Skin, Crushed, Euphoria, Wings of Steel, Tongue Tied and Twisted, Felix The Cat, Beautiful Noise Machine (as The Secret Meeting, that's the side project)

Nah, their Aberdeen gig was two days after I saw Muse so fuck that basically.
Why did they bother coming up here? You've mentioned it before.

Don't like the first track but after that it's all solid stuff. Can't wait for Panda Bears new solo album next year.
