Re: The Wire
The only reason people didn't like it is because it wasn't 100% ghetto centric.Black Suede wrote:Season 2 is great at the moment, I don't see how it feels like filler.
Re: The Wire
Yeah, I'm really loving the Russians, the Greeks and all that stuff. Seriously can't believe this show went unseen by me for so long. I've heard that people who see The Sopranos first normally don't like it as much and vice-versa, but I think it's on par. They both feel pretty different anyway, like I love The Sopranos for it's black homour and philosophy and shizzle, while this isn't as heavy on that, an extremely well written gritty police drama about life on the streets and shizzle.

Re: The Wire
This series has lots and lots of philosophical depth. It's just written so well you don't really notice it. And I think the humour in the series is great!

Re: The Wire
Yeah I'm with Major, it's laden with philosophy but it's embedded well amongst the lingo and ebonics.
Re: The Wire
Oh yeah, said that wrong. It does have pretty good homour and philosophy - but not as in your face as in The Sopranos. I'm a dumbass, don't worry.
(D explaining Chess and the McNuggets parts are brilliant.)
Anyway, I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't like McNulty that much, he's gets shit done but when I think about it, he really is a gaping asshole.

My brother turned off the Wire because McNulty irritated him so.

Re: The Wire
I watched some of the earlier episodes of The Wire some time ago and that chess scene impressed me as well.
It's amazing how articulate one can be even with seemingly inarticulate language.

Re: The Wire
Finished the second season last night, was really good, loved some of the characters and plot, and some very, very funny scenes too. Maybe it was the ending that most people felt short changed on? I would still say I preferred the first season overall. Oh, and the title music did start to grow on me.
Onto the third season!

Nothing wrong with season 2 imho, it's just that the 'hood makes for more interesting entertainment than the cargo dump.

I'm not feeling the 3rd season, yo, title music is whack. Only 2 episodes in, though, just not sure where it's going.

Re: The Wire
I've just finished season 3, a bit slow to begin with but by the end pretty great stuff. The second last episode is obviously a landmark scene; I couldn't believe what was actually happening.
Still can't believe I haven't heard Clay Davis say 'sheit' yet. Has anyone else noticed that the actor who plays him also says that in the 2002 Spike Lee film '25th Hour'? Cool stuff.
Here ya go:
Actually, just read that that is his catchphrase in a few things.
