Comics
So I've badly missed the boat on comics. I mean, I used to read the Beano and the occasional pile of random cheap stuff my dad occasionally picked up in Plan 9 (like Forbidden Planet), but I have no sense of history and no idea why there's so much audience overlap between gaming and graphic novel fans.
Can anyone explain or even recommend some shit? I've got a copy of Watchmen that's been sitting doing nothing since Christmas, so I'm going to see if I like that over the next few weeks in my time off.

Re: Comics
Dumbed down action novels with pictures. Extremely dumbed down. Also probably not for >15 year olds.
Re: Comics
Ask Ipso about comics, he's the one who told me some stuff to read

Re: Comics
I'm sure you'd love V For Vendetta. Loads of anarchy vs fascism stuff.
Watchmen too is a must. These are comics that transcend your average novel when it comes to intelligence.

Currently reading -
Deadpool - Suicide Kings,
Greek Street (first issue is dirt cheap if you have a local comic book store)
Wolverine Noir - (which to be honest isn't the best... very disapointing much like the spiderman one)
Four Eyes

Re: Comics
The majority of comics I would buy based on the artwork. I'm not really into reading them though. With the exception of some Batman stuff, Spawn, and some quality graphic novels, such as Watchmen.

Re: Comics
Has anyone read The Darkness comics? I was thinking about getting them even though I'm not a big comic fan.
Re: Comics
I actually did get one, but the reason was for the artwork. I did a concept piece of Jackie Estacado. Never really got around to reading it properly, but those little minions (?) are pretty funny.

There called Darklings There cool. If I ever have spare cash I might pick them up.
Seany - I'm not sure. I think it will be great for comic fans but I doubt it will win me (and other non-comic fans) over tbh.
Re: Comics
As a non-comic fan myself I plan to buy a graphic novel just dip my toes into unfamiliar territory. Might have my PSPGo! by then so I can read it on the train.

Re: Comics
Gonna buy some comics on a £20 budget for my birthday at lunchtime. Watchmen will be one of em, what else is good in the comic world? Looking particularly for graphic novels with intelligence.
Not that I'll get a reply by 1pm

Re: Comics
Maybe at some point, but not atm, I wasn't that fond on the film.
Maybe watchmen can be the intelligent one and I can get something with zombies and blood and stuff to balance things out with a bit of dumb indulgent fun.

Re: Comics
The film completely raped the essence of the comic. Don't compare them.

Re: Comics
Yeah, well the Forbidden Planet megastore is a 10 min walk from work so I can always try that out some time. Read the blurb and don't see what's THAT special about it, care to sell it to me?
Also, I hope I don't look immature on the train home with my two comic books and my massive bong I got

Re: Comics
Scott Pilgrim: It captures the spirit of our generation perfectly. With dry humour, witty but true to life dialogue and great, rounded characters. Its hilariusly funny, and references everything fromtrainspotting, to the Smashing Pumpkins to Final Fantasy VII (When being asked about his girlfriend, Scott unabashedly claims he spent his mrning learning the guitar chord from it,as his friends look on in disbelief). Its the story or a relationship between Scott and Ramona flowers, and he must defeat her 7 eveil ex boyfriend in a decidedly SFII way.
Its just, if you love films, love games and music, then its the perfect story. Watchmen is great, sure. Nothing has made me smile as much as Scott Pilgrim, ever.
Only £8 quid each, and like, 60 pages, you can finish it in an hour and if you dont like it then fine, but please, all of you, try it!
Also, Edgar Wright (The BRITISH director of Shaun and Hot Fuzz has his adaptation of this coming out next year, is very probably going to be my favourite film)
