Re: Gigs
Saw The King Blues at Manchester Academy 2 last night, and they were fantastic, replicating their tight studio sound successfully in a live environment. Great gig, however support band Imperial Leisure stole the show for me. P.O.S was quality too.
Highlight from KB has to be their cover of summer-hit Bonkers... sure got the room moving!

Re: Gigs
I'd have been willing to debate that judgement if you hadn't just listed two sub-standard dead-head bands in the same post.
But yeah, Marilyn Manson were responsible for two of my favourite albums of the nineties (Antichrist Superstar/Mechanical Animals). Perhaps not as cohesive or strong now, but still commonly misjudged as a mere shock-rock act by people who don't really understand music.

I like some Marilyn Manson tracks, but if it's not shock rock, why does he choose to dress up like such a dick?

Its like the whole, "Manson had his ribs taken out so he could suck his cock" debate. It is bollocks, however he is/was (depends on your stance) provocative but at the same time creative. A lot of his nineties lyrics looked at aspects of symbolism, and messed with the connotations. So for example, finding sexual representation within an image of Jesus nailed to the cross, or violent connotations, ahead of religious. Of course, little kiddies couldn't understand a lot of his metaphorical language at the time, so took things literally, as did the media. That's why he is the demonised man we know him as.

Re: Gigs
Enter Shikari were fucking immense again. As I could of guessed the older songs were still the best live although Hectic was pretty crazy and I was pleased they played Gap In The Fence.
I lost part of a filling in the back of my mouth though, bit of a pain but luckily I've got the dentist next week anyway so it's no problem.

Re: Gigs
Yesterday I went to Sheffield to see Straftanz and VNV Nation (We arrived too late to see Ayria, which was a shame, she's meant to be batshit insane live)
Straftanz were okay. They didn't play any of the music live and it irks me when these sort of bands just hit a play button and then occasionally bounce around on stage... and their other vocalist sat on a chair for some reason. Their music was excellent, but it wasn't really a show.
VNV Nation on the other hand were amazing. They've been touring for years so they know what they're doing. Ronan really knows how to engage a crowd and he's actually quite a funny guy in person, if he wasn't singing, he was making us all laugh our heads off. The best bit was probably the last track when everyone sang along to the main synth line and we all repeated the last words of the track back for about 10 minutes after the song had ended (even Ronan looked surprised at how long we dragged it out for)
I'm completely knackered still.
