Reviews:

OXM- 9.5

It's not only an achievement within it's own genre, but a landmark for the entire medium as well.

Destructoid - 9.5

It’s a game that’s so solid that Harmonix could continue to support the game with downloadable content for years to come, and fans would find little to complain about. If they’re already dreaming of a follow-up, they’ve got their work cut out for them, because Rock Band 3 seems about as close to perfect as you’re going to get.

Joystiq - 5/5

Video games -- not just rhythm games, but all video games -- rarely show this much ambition. Even more rare are occasions where developers manage to fulfill the impossibly lofty goals they set before themselves. Rock Band 3 manages both with ease, backing up brilliant ideas with flawless execution.

Game Informer - 9.25

In many ways, Rock Band 3 is a culmination of Harmonix’s efforts to bring music to the masses. But it’s also a new chapter in the franchise that starts the gradual merging of real and game-based music. Plenty of naysayers have already declared music games dead. Harmonix certainly hasn’t gotten the message; this band is primed for a new tour.

Only one week to go!

I've got the pro guitar on order with ShopTo for £108.85, cheapest I found it for. I can't wait to try it out. It's not the real Squier Stratocaster, as that will cost a lot more, and I don't think it's out until a few months after the release anyway.

I'll wait to hear if the new instruments are worth getting, but I'm excited for this. Great setlist.

It's got Avenged - that's actually epic. If I can get my guitar beck from my big brother I might just get this.

Rez HD is pretty much the only music game I can be bothered playing.

I only wished it was a bit longer. Roll on Child of Eden.

Anyway, the setlist for this is way better than the wank they put out for Guitar Hero.

Anyway, all the reviews for this so far have been excellent, Harmonix have totally gone all out and perfected the genre by the sounds of it.

Hopefully after Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock only selling 86,000 units in the first week (compared to Guitar Hero 3 selling 1.4 million in the first week lol ) that Kotick will stop milking the GH series now.

Harmonix maybe should have backed off with some of their spin-offs, but it's a shame people like to jump on the hate bandwagon. If Harmonix were just the ones developing these guitar rhythm games, then there would have only been 1 Guitar Hero game on the current-gen consoles. lol

Anyway here's so you can understand it a bit better.

Harmonix

Guitar Hero series

Guitar Hero
Guitar Hero 2

Spin-off

Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's

Rock Band series

Rock Band
Rock Band 2
Rock Band 3

Spin-off

Lego Rock Band
The Beatles: Rock Band
Green Day: Rock Band

Instead, with Activision demanding more Guitar Hero games, now we have all of these as well:

Neversoft

Guitar Hero 3
Guitar Hero: World Tour
Guitar Hero 5
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock

Spin-off

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Guitar Hero: Metallica
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits
Guitar Hero: Van Halen

(not inculding the handheld games)

Like I said, hopefully Activision back off now and Harmonix can just support Rock Band 3 with DLC for the next few years, which they will.

This game is fantastic, by the way, just the pro guitar was delayed, so I have to wait until next week until it comes before I can see how good it is.

I give it a 10/10, though, first one this gen, it's just perfect.
