So, yeah. I see that some are already playing this, including Jammer.

I ordered it today - was gonna leave it but I caved lol. I'll let you know what I think when I get it
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
It's exactly the same as the last CoD gameplay wise. It's alright I guess, why change a money making formula?

That's what Lance Henriksen says.

Cant tell if using the metacritic score in your argument was sarcastic or not, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and pretend it was.
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Its ok, not as good as MW, but its ok.
The online is very shiney and almost like TF2 in presentation.

I'm liking the sound of the wager mode - hopefully get it tomorrow because I have the house to myself so I'll most likely get some mates up and piss about on Black Ops if I get it.
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
The game is definitely 'meh' for the most part, some cool moments, but the engine is so poor compared to MW2.
Wager mode is a good as I thought it would be though, a lot of fun.

And this is exactly why I'm lending a rented version for the weekend... it looks ass!

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
The main problem is the World at War engine; it feels/looks quite dated, especially after playing MW2. Although, the detail on the characters faces is pretty amazing, along with the animation, it's just mainly the surroundings and such look a a bit fuzzy and drab at times. I think one of the biggest problems I have with it, is the ragdoll physics Treyarch continue to use - it just looks silly the way people react when they're shot, while Infinity Ward have stuck with animated deaths since the beginning, which looks much better, in my opinion.
Voice acting is top notch, though, I love Ed Harris, so it's great to hear his voice in this, and his character is pretty awesome too. It's also nice to have Gary Oldman back, and Sam Worthington isn't so bad himself. Ice Cube does a good job too, and the guy who voices Woods is great too. So for the characters and all I give it a two thumbs up.
The missions are pretty cool at times, a lot of big set-pieces, action doesn't hold up all the way through (this can be either fun or tiresome for some). The story is interesting, but gets a bit muddled as it goes on, pretty hard to follow first time through. I was hoping for a more serious plot, especially with the Vietnam war, but once again, it's in the same caliber as Michael Bay.
I finished it earlier, and I've almost finished it again on Veteran.
I would probably give it a 7/10, good game, can be fun, just a bad choice to use an old engine, this hampers the enjoyment of the online too.

Yeah, the Cold War setting with some Vietnam missions, there's even a WWII mission thrown in.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
In terms of multiplayer, this is better than MW2. More balanced, and wager matches are great fun with a few mates. It doesn't have the stressful competitive feel, which I like. It's far more casual. I'm just finished the 8th mission on veteran, it is very very tough. Twice as hard as MW2. I actually really like what they've done with the single player. Different. The way everything id kinda like a memory as opposed to it being in real time etc. Wasn't sure that it was Worthington voicing the main character, I assumed it was but wasn't 100%. He does a good job regardless. I thought the section in the dark where you just had a flashlight looked awesome. The textures inside the ship were great. Like Suede said, the facial/human animations look great. Couldn't believe the detail gone into something as small as a group of guys arms. Some had hairs, veins etc. Really looked great. And Zombies is fun, I never played it in WAW so it's completely new to me, but quite enjoyable. I think it's better than MW2 on the whole. Think Treyarch pulled it off.

Well, although I was sarky before, I actually kind of approve. Not big on CoD, but I never understood why war games always limit themselves to one theatre.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Quite liking this myself. It takes me about 5 minutes to find a game but when I actually get in one it's good fun. Campaign is good too - some nice set pieces and the story seems interesting enough.
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Getting to the end of the campaign now. Considering all the variety in this, and the focus on multiplayer, the campaign was good fun and pretty much perfect in length. About 8 hours maybe? This is probably the second best sounding game I've ever played, the exception being Dead Space. Sounds incredible. And it's a real challenge on veteran.

What about Medal of Honor? The sound design on that game is the best thing about it.
