Medal of Honor Medal-of-honor-2010

Developer: Danger Close (EA Los Angeles)
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Release Date: 14 October 2010

I really think this is the return of Medal of Honor. I didn't think much about it at first, but I watched some videos showing off some gameplay and it coloured me impressed. Sure, there's fucking war shooters everywhere these days, but I like what EA are trying to do, going down the authentic route, and away from the more arcade style of Call of Duty.

It follows the real life 'Tier One Operators', while also playing from the 'Big Military' perspectives. It's set in 2001.

Also, news just in yesterday, they had to change 'Taliban' to 'Opposing Force' in multiplayer because of the controversy.

GamesMaster has given it a score of 85%.

"Like Battlefield before it, Medal of Honor is an engrossing online shooter with an above-average campaign mode bolted on. As a result, it's a purchase you should only seriously consider if your console is hooked up to the interwebs."

I got it yesterday. The multiplayer is great, like a cross between CoD and Bad Company. Only finished the first mission of single player but it seems solid. Some cool features like being able to slide into cover and lean in and out of cover are nice. We'll see how it goes but I'm liking it so far. Chances are if you enjoyed Bad Company 2 you'll like this.

How did you get it early?

I'm still deciding whether to pre-order it or not. I feel that I should wait for a price drop.

I saw that you played it some more, should I get it Jamie? My money is in your hands!

One of the perks of being a GAME employee Wink

Suede, the single player is fairly short, nearly finished it now. It's also not very difficult, playing it on hard and haven't struggled at all yet. The single player is decent enough. Everything is similar to Bad Company. But like Bad Company and MW2 it's the multiplayer that really shines. It is awesome. Fast paced, a lot of players, pretty small maps. I really like the multiplayer. Better than Bad Company and definitely rivalling MW2.

But if you have no interest in another great multiplayer FPS based on a modern war, I'd give it until the price comes down because it doesn't bring much new to the table. More familiar fun. The choice is yours, but I am really enjoying it.

It's probably floating around the 7.5/8 mark at present...

Yeah, I heard some guy who did a walkthrough on justin.tv finished it in under 4 hours. Bleh.

Thanks for the reply, I might just wait now, sure it'll be under £25 in a few weeks before Black Ops releases. In the meantime I think I'll play Medal of Honor on the PsOne. Now that's what I call gaming.

the original MoH is still brilliant, even today. I still have it, might have to get 100% of the medals again Big smile

The Tier 1 version on PS3 gives you a download code for MoH: Frontlines. Us 360 customers got scammed outta that one. Anyway, finished it there on hard. It was very easy at that difficulty. Took maybe 6 hours? There or there abouts...I did expect more from the single player. It could easily be Bad Company 3 or something. So yeah, don't get this if you're looking for the Medal of Honor single players of age. It's a multiplayer game with a single player campaign attached. GamesMaster nailed it.

Some neat new features though like the ability to slide into cover, and peak/lean in and out of cover are nice, but there is this weird lack of recoil on the guns that takes a bit away from the realism. But then again you are playing as trained rangers etc. so they'd probably know how to handle a weapon.

I wanna give the single player a 7, but that could be because I literally just finished it. Could go down slightly.

Again, if you play multiplayer and enjoyed Bad Company, definitely get this because it is AWESOME online. EA wiped all the scores on Saturday night, hopefully they won't do it again before the street date release...

I think I still have my save with 100% on one of my PSone memory cards. So good. Thank you Spielberg, please get your company back and make more games.

Just read this from last year:

Steven Spielberg wrote:The smartest and dumbest thing I ever did was to sell my company to EA," said Spielberg. "Medal of Honor" was almost done and we made the decision to sell Dreamworks Interactive to Electronic Arts and had we not sold, we would have been able to stay in business just based on the success of "Medal of Honor."

The game overall is a 7, I've decided. Taking into account the great multiplayer and average single-player, I'll go with a 7.

I caved and pre-ordered this. I'm such a dildo for these war shooters, and it's not exactly like I'm low on cash, so hey-ho. You can laugh at me when I come back in anguish.

Started a new game on Medal of Honor as well, got a medal for the first set of missions. I remembered that you had to end the level with 3/4 of your health left, and the majority of enemies killed. I found this pretty annoying on the undercover missions, as it destroys the whole purpose of the objective, but yeah, fun stuff. Also, I can't believe we complain about graphics these days, they are stunning, and you only realise that when you go back to old 3D games. Honestly, it's shocking.

The graphics in Medal of Honor 2010 aren't great though really. And I remember the original being pretty ugly even by PSone standards...But the animations while reloading and stuff in the new one are very rigid and stiff. You know in Kick-Ass when it goes into first person with Hit-Girl holding the gun? The animations are that kind of stiffness...

Yeah, the first thing I noticed was the gun models do look very rigid. I played through MW2 the other day in a few hours, and IW are so great at all that with the look and feel of weapons even if they handle unrealisticly. Shame the campaign is mostly overblown pile of poop.

Yeah. IW have the gun animations and feel down completely. In MoH the M60 is such a huge gun but has no real weight.

I'm surprised by the amount of technical hiccups in this game, it's like EA didn't bother to test it, honestly, how do they think it was orite to let it go out like this? I mean, at the start of one cutscene, the texture hasn't even loaded on one of the goats, and it's right in front of your eyeballs! Underwhelming graphics aside, the sound has to be some of the best I've heard. You can easily tell it's real sound recordings of weapons firing.

It's a shame about the techincal issues, as this campaign is much more interesting than the Michael Bay Modern Warfare 2 orgy. I'm only on the fourth mission I think, gonna play through it slowly, but I'm finding it good, and the more meaty feel to shooting people is far better than arcade Duty. It kinda makes you wince sometimes. Although, I think the lean function is pretty redundant, and sliding into cover is so stupid as it just wacks you face first into it.

I tried some multiplayer, and at first I kinda hated it, but after I started being awesome, I began to really see its merits. It's quite fun, and far more tactical than MW2.

So overall, it's like EA made a really good game here, but forgot to polish it up. The fucking numpties.

I finished this earlier, and then went and finished again on Hard in a few hours. lol

Anyway, I enjoyed it, but the techinal faults bring it way down. There were actual parts of the mission that would glitch at points and I would fail the mission, pretty poor show. I liked the more realistic feel, the weapons sound really good, and all the ambience too. I was hoping for a more professional approach to the whole experience, but it's a shame that the usual American Hua gung-ho poo it's still here.

I'm enjoying the online way more than I thought I would, definitely a hybrid between Modern Warfare and Battlefield
