The Wire
How can it be so good, so addictive? My God... I wish I'd bothered watching it when it was reccomeded to me a few years ago. Just brilliant.
(Only halfway through season 2 atm so be spoiler concious in your discussion please)
Edit: The scene is season one where McNulty and fat black detective guy are talking in the bar and McNulty says "when it came time for you to fuck me you were gentle" is he speaking metaphorically or something? Please say he is. I don't have a problem with gays but being gay isn't 'badass' (more like badforyourass) and if he was being literal it would detract a lot form McNulty's badassery.

Re: The Wire
Damn, I am dying to watch both this and Mad Men, but I really want to own them on DVD and Blu Ray as opposed to downloading them. Need more moolah!

Re: The Wire
I bought the complete series box set on Wednesday. I'm half way through the first season now, and I wish I had got it sooner as it's excellent! Easily going to be one of my favourite shows ever.
Sean, that bit in the bar - McNulty is just juicing with his long-term friend. They are drunk, but they do seem real serious when he says that.
I noticed Omar is a lot of peoples favourite, and he is slowly becoming mine. I couldn't believe he's gay, seems totally original for a character like him to be.
Oh, and it's an absolute crime that this thread has been dormant since last July.

Re: The Wire
I've watched it all, it's amazing but don't get your hopes up for the 5th season, its a very disappointing end to what is my favorite tv show of all time.
Major, Mad Men's good, watch this first though... trust me! As someone who finds madmen interesting stylistically and in its content (they do work in an ad agency after all...), it can be abit dull at times. The wire however, never stops being exceptional.

Re: The Wire
trust me mate, a whole season of "wtf..." is abit disheartening, especially as how much I loved season 4.

Re: The Wire
Ipso, this thread is old as time dawg! By now I've already finished four seasons of the Wire (the last so far being my favourite). Gonna save the final season for a bit.
And Mad Men is fantastic too, watched two seasons of it. Don't reckon it's boring at all.
McNulty, Bunk and Stringer Bell are probably my favourite characters in season 1. Won't spoil who's awesome in season 4

Re: The Wire
Did you have a hard time accepting that the whole series is displayed natively in 4:3, Major? I refuse to stretch the picture, but I've grown to like it, the way it's shot it's like a documentary in a way, so it's all good.

I was warned on beforehand, so it didn't surprise me. At first I was skeptical, but I refuse to stretch. But the guys doing it really know how to take advantage of the format, now it's just cool!

Gdgd.
Seriously trying not to watch more than 2 episodes a day. I could easily sit and watch the whole series in one sitting, I'm just utterly engrossed in it.

Re: The Wire
I watched season 1 in two days. After that I started watching it with my girlfriend, and she doesn't have my watching stamina so I've managed to make it last. Season 4 is so unbelievably good!!

Oh, man, I might move it up to 3 episodes a day, but I want to savour it. It's just so goddamn goood! A lot of people say the 4th season is the best. I dunno what to do, anbaiejtaeijgbleughahh!

Re: The Wire
Good choice of character there suede. Anyone find it funny that Freaman resembles Morgan Freeman so much, the wise old calm dude acting included.
Also, what I love about this shows writing is the sheer realism, how these disadvantaged people that have the same thoughts and feelings as you and I but express themselves through intricate slang and colloquialisms. There's a real poetry to the way that amount of expression that can be gained from such simple and informal vocabularies.
Season 2 is still the best for my money.

Re: The Wire
Some have said that the second season isn't that good, but it's nice to hear someone say it's the best.
Oh, I just watched episode 10 - The Cost, and omg, that happens on my 13th birthday. Creepy shit right there, yo.

Re: The Wire
Started the second season earlier - WTF HAPPENED TO THE TITLE MUSIC!!!?!?!
It's kinda sad that the team has disbanded now, genuine feelings for these guys. When thingie was shot, I was raging, I was ready to jump right in and help them with their case.
I love this show. Best £60 I've probably ever spent.

Re: The Wire
If my knowledge of the Wire is up to scratch, the title music of the second series was sung by Tom Waits. He wrote the song as well.

It's just way too chilled for me now after the original theme, I was well getting into it.
I love this show.

Re: The Wire
It's wierd. I don't particularly like Waits' stuff in general, but I love that song. The Waits' version that is.
Maybe I should give Rain Dogs another chance.

Re: The Wire
I reckon Season 4 has an amazing take on the song. But season 2 is awesome too. As Sean says, it really grows on you and you'll miss it when it's gone!

Season 2 is great at the moment, I don't see how it feels like filler.
