Re: So who did you vote for?

I've been saying for a while that voters need to stop asking "what can they do for me?" Listening to a lot of the Guardian election podcasts, most people really do only care about how much more money will end up in their pocket. It's noticeable working with the public, actually, the moment something isn't going as smoothly or as quickly as humanly possible to get them out the door of Tesco with as much stuff for as little money possible they get snarky, moany and start behaving like impatient children. New Labour certainly helped our family a lot in the last decade or so, kept us afloat during difficult times and they're a safety net for us if something goes horribly wrong, but at the moment, it's hard to say with which party in power we'd be better off. I voted Labour because they care. Gay rights and foreign aid don't do much to improve my life, but Labour have been instrumental in these areas. Maybe they do their best to sabotage themselves, too readily hack away at civil liberties and courted the "aspirational" middle class for a while, but they care about the poor, elderly, disabled and disadvantaged above all and I can't support a party that wouldn't make welfare and public services a priority.

If that was a joke I'm not sure I follow? If it's based on my quasi-support for Gears' voting choices, meh, I'm disappointed when anybody votes Tory but God bless the democracy that lets 'em, right?
I'm certainly not about to leave the country if Cameron gets into Downing Street.
Anybody else thinking Gordon Brown is a fucking top guy?

Gordon was a good guy, always tried his best even if he was misguided in his decisions. He really did care about the disadvantaged, much more genuine than Cameron.

It's true we like him more than the English do, but that's because he has this awkward Scottishness about him. What yous see as annoyingly dour we see as "poor lad's overworked".

I hate Cameron for his Englishness, so it's understandable.

He was pretty dour to me, just like Andy Murray. Unbearable.

Also found out today one of our employees voted Conservative. Over 50, female, Scottish. Pretty interesting. Need to see where the rest are at with their politics.

I thought it was well understood that I'm an unpatriotic guy, I think much of the developed world (including, incidentally, England) has a more interesting culture and a better way of going about their business than my country.
I like Gordon because he's intelligent in an unshowy way and, for all that he smiles awkwardly or doesn't appreciate being put with that bigoted woman, has actually got a tremendous amount right while in office. At times he's been dealt a hell of a hand and got on with it admirably, and much of what he's criticised for isn't actually his doing. His time as PM ended in him sacrificing himself in an attempt to save us all from a Cameron-run government, and I think that speaks much of the man.

I saw a picture of Hitler being used so it can't be that different from American politics.
