Bioshock 2

Post by JokerJamie on Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:13 am

I know some Interhood members weren't so keen on the original (or at least felt it was overrated...). I personally loved it, on both playthroughs. Got a huge delivery of this in work on Wednesday, and seeing 'em all boxed up on the shelf got me all excited. I'm excited to see what they've done to evolve Rapture, to step into the Big Daddy's boots, battle the Big Sisters, and try out the multiplayer.

Obviously its out on Tuesday, anyone else getting it on release date?

92 on Metacritic:

Official Xbox Magazine - 95
IGN - 91
IGN AU - 91
IGN UK - 90
Xbox World 360 - 90

General opinion seems to be that Rapture feels to familiar to merit a perfect score...Multiplayer works surprising well, big sisters are terrifying, and the plot is as deep as ever.

I'm so pumped affraid

I loved BioShock, but I haven't played it since my first playthrough back in August 2007. Well, at least to the end again.

I feel that I should be excited for the sequel, but I'm not.

I also loved the first Bioshock but, like Suede, I lack excitment even though I'm sure it will be good. Mass Effect 2 will more than keep my happy Smile

I really enjoyed Bioshock on my first playthrough, mainly just exploring Rapture, which I think is an amazing game world. However, on a second playthrough, the linear nature of the title really shone through and it was such a slog. I'm not sure if I'll get Bioshock 2 for a while, got Dante's and Mass Effect 2 to keep me busy.

Gonna wait for this one to drop in price. Got ME2 and HR to keep me going in the meantime and I'm not exactly hyped for this title.

Game Informer's review isn't exactly glowing.

I played for a few hours today, and the plot is as good as the first one. Not quite as complicated yet, but I'm expecting some twists to come my way shortly. The battles with the big sisters and big daddies are awesome, and the big sisters are scaring the shit out of me. They are so fast, and after dealing with a little sister or two, expect a visit from one within the next 3 or 4 minutes. You'll know it's coming by the blood-curdling wail.

The multiplayer, of the short time I've played, works surprisingly well actually. It's quite fun, and different. Choose your character, gain xp from getting kills, winning matches, researching dead enemies, hacking vending machines, and watch him mutate as you level up! And there are a fair few game types to choose from. Haven't experienced any lag, either. Oh and you can become a big daddy, if your quick enough.

It's worth a shot, all you skeptics...

Finished this today. It's awesome. And, not to give too much away, but towards the end you get to see Rapture in an entirely different perspective, which was one of the highlights of the game...

Great story, Rapture is still incredible but does feel very familiar apart from the aforementioned section, which explains a lot when you play it. The final plasmid you get is the most powerful one to date, and it is pretty awesome. Multiplayer ain't too shabby either.

8.5/10

Downloaded all 9 gig of this on Steam during the day, looking forward to getting stuck in.

Just played the first half hour. Impressed so far, it's a little more low-key (in a weird way) than the first game's introduction but I think they played it right.

Also it looks lovely and runs great.

This doesn't tempt me one bit after watching the trailer, looks far too much like the previous game all over again. Gonna give this one a miss and save my time and money for Heavy Rain instead!

Just found out that a friend of mine who I did drama with voiced Eleanor Lamb (one of the main characters)! Every time I drink with her, she's gonna have to put on the voice all night. May even get her to sign my copy Razz

My Steam profile says two hours on this, but it's probably a bit less because of all the time attempting to fix the saving. All sorted now, just finished the first section, about to go to the amusement park. I like it a lot so far, but I'm going to play it in wee chunks at a time so I don't burn out on it like I did the original.

Sweet. I was thinking about trading this is, but I know I'd regret it. And the multiplayer is a nice change on occasion. I'll hold onto it.

The first would make more sense and be cheaper. It's better to see Rapture in decline than totally fucked initially. The second is a better action game, but it doesn't have the "wow" factor of the first and I'm not sure if it would to someone who hasn't played the series yet either.

Just got this, and I'm finding it really good! I forgot how good Bioshock looks and plays.

Anyway, really interested in what the story has to offer.

It's not bad by any means, but a few months on it's not nearly as memorable as the first.

Infinite looks like the shizzle though. Pity the wait is so long.

I'm enjoying this much more than I thought I would. I really like getting the Little Sisters and defending them as they gather EVE.

I am finding it a little difficult at times, though. I always groan when I see a Splicer with a gun, as they maul the crap out of you, which is weird when your a Big Daddy, can't understand that.

It does feel a lot like Bioshock 1.5, but they've built a great story on top of the first game, and the combat is improved, so it's all good. Also, it's made all the more better than I only paid 9.99 for it!

My hype for Bioshock: Infinite has gone right up.
