Need surround sound...The old crap one has died due to alcohol intolerances..
I have a 42lg7000 TV, a PS3, a XBox 360 and Virgin HD box and would like a Surround Sound (5.1) recommended to me from someone who actually has a clue what they are talking about as the people at the shops have less idea than me

I'm on a fairly tight budget(150-200 max) and would like a basic (read, explained to a idiot) run down of how to connect it all.

The TV has 4 HDMI inputs, Optical output but seems to have no audio outputs, the PS3 and 360 are running on HDMI and the Virgin box runs picture through HDMI and sound through red/white audio for some odd reason??

Any recommendations advice welcome as i cant afford to lose any more hair!!!

I've viewed this thread thrice but tbh I'm not big on sound, I always ignore the sound section on blu ray reviews, the video section followed by the film review are what I read although I wouldn't buy a shit film just because it's pretty. iRobot is meant to be beautiful but I have no desire to watch it again, for example.

I'm big on sound but at that budget I really can't help you. Whatever you buy is going to sound the same anyway. £1000-2000 is my area of expertise.

I often read the audio reviews more carefully than the video ones, and I've actually re-bought a few films on blu-ray just for the sound aspect. Which is logical, considering my surround cost more than my TV and PS3 put together.

I wonder whether my disinterest in sound is related to my disinterest in music... film>video>supplements>sound

I have little interest in music, but I love enjoying crystal clear ambience, rumbling dialogue, thundering explosions and perfectly mastered scores.

I appreciate good sound design in anything, but I can't actually afford to do so above "incredibly cheap". As in, fifteen pound earphones and under-a-tenner 2.1 value speakers. I probably therefore get to enjoy my sound fifty to sixty five per cent as much as Iain at less than one per cent of the cost.

Have you even experienced a proper home theatre in action? My Logitech computer speakers do not equal 50-60 percent of that. THEY JUST DON'T. MY MONEY IS WELL SPENT DAMNIT!

I HAVE to use surround sound as my bloody generic HD tv provider dont supply sound at 1.3 so my nice telly wont play any sound from the HD box....

Not to fussed bout mega sound, just a nice basic system will do me.

But i may have to wait a week or two now as i kinda went drinking not long after the 2nd post and have just got in now.

My kidneys hurts.
