The fine cuisine appreciation thread
A thread for lovers of decent food (no I don't care what your favourite flavour of crisps are, that's not food, it's junk)
As most of you know, I'm in Spain at the moment and the food is lovely!
For example last night I had:
Broccoli and stilton soup to start
Sirloin steak with chips and peppercorn sauce
Crème brûlée and a nice brandy to finish
What nice food have you eaten recently and wht are some of your favourite dishes?
Steak is a firm favourite of mine and when in Spain you can't beat the fresh seafood caught off the nearby coast. Prawns, clams, mussels, oysters, lobster etc

Hmmm yer thats not really fine cuisine lol
I had some lovely food when I was in Spain earlier in the year, very simplistic and I like the fact that they're not into filling the plates with unwanted extras

I certainly appreciate the finer foods, but it's been a good couple of weeks since I dined out.
If you're ever in a Turkish restaurant, take the Meze Platter or whatever they call it, it's a big spread of all the different starter/main/side dishes on offer - it was superb.

I had a lovely Thai Red tonight, with roasted cashews to add to the fine flavour.

So my granny, mum and I went out for a rather spiffing luncheon in this art deco restaurant that looks like something lifted straight out of BioShock and has been around since the 1930s.
I had the exquisite mushroom and root ginger soup. The thinly sliced mushrooms were a surprising delight and the hint of ginger topped off the rich flavour beautifully. Afterwards I enjoyed a lightly toasted ciabatta filled with homemade meatballs, sun dried tomatoes and melted mature cheddar, complemented by a side of chopped salad with a mustard vinegarette dressing. Needless to say, a most gentlemanly snack.

Sounds delicious, and I can imagine the aesthetics of the restaurant added to the meal. I've eaten out around the famous art deco district in Miami a bit and always found the style to be incredibly charming.
The La Hacienda, which is a 10 minute walk from my current location, (used often when my dad's wife/chauffeur doesn't want to be the designated driver) has a splendid atmosphere. It's a quaint little villa with Roman architecture that must of been there for at least a century. It has a rustic charm with the electric switch lights being the only signs of electricity that I recall. The garden is beautiful to eat in and so well kept to. Definitely in my top 5 restaurants of all time.

Bon Laboureur is a fine, but expensive, restaurant in Loire, France that do just about everything to perfection... the steak is unlike any other steak I have tried. The waiting lounges are humble, juxtaposing the blend of traditional and modern styles in the main eating areas.
Pity my mum is no longer with a rich dude.

I had a tapas meal at a Spanish restaurant for my birthday yesterday evening. The meatballs and calamari especially went down a treat.
Oh, and today my granny made a delicious lental soup.

I'm currently eating a lovely big bowl of those Swedish Kitchen (Iain's favourite!) meatballs with a tomato sauce and grated cheese. I may have microwaved the meatballs and sauce, but it's the finest microwaved meal I've ever had.

I really love seafood. Any type. There's an unbelievable fish monger just opened down the road from me. I got shrimp the other day, and unfortunately had to remove the tails/heads and shell them first, but by god were they worth it. Fried up a lovely noodle dish with em.
There is currently a bowl of tesco's finest mussels circulating the inside of my microwave, should be good.
But yeah I really enjoy good food of all sorts.

My dad ate mussels when he was younger, but got very allergic to them in his twenties for some reason and passed that on to me. I had an amazing seafood spaghetti dish at an Italian a couple of years ago and woke up in the middle of the night puking everywhere because they were in it.

Mmmmm Sea food...
At the moment I've been set a challenge to become vegetarian for a month, I've started today and so far I've gone quite well, not tempted, hopefully this will help me to start getting into more salads and vegetables.
