Flammen og Citronen
Interesting Danish resistance drama set during WW2. I reckon it's superior to the Norwegian resistance film Max Manus, primarily because it takes a more interesting psychological approach to how the two killers deal with executing nazi's as opposed to simply trying to rouse patriotism.

Adventureland
Surprisingly hilarious comedy that was unexpectedly largely off the beaten track. Doesn't avoid comedy (at least modern comedy) tropes as well as, say, Napoleon Dynamite, but it's packed with belly-laughs, exactly as something of this nature should be but rarely actually is these days.

Up
With Pixar's near flawless track record, apart from the backfiring 'Cars', I went into Up, obviously, with 'inflated' (
) expectations. Nothing could have prepared me. I was almost in tears during the speechless montage that ensued just 10 minutes in. Sniffling was audible over the beautiful music, as the touching scenes tugged on the heart strings of the entire audience. The film manages to keep us all gripped and ready to loosen up the tear ducts again about an hour later.
Anyway, I don't want to give anything away, but expect near perfection. From the colours to the characters. You'll laugh and you'll cry. A fantastic film that needs nothing more than it's incredible story and sense of adventure. For me, this is the film of the year (so far), and the best Pixar release since the Godfather of CGI, Toy Story.

i wouldnt say i loved, not quite, but i wont deny that it was a brilliant film, i would say around 4.3 out of 5, i felt it took slightly to long to get going, once you where out of the first 30 mins i was glued to it.you really do feel for the characters and there where plenty of laughs, highlight was the dog with the broken coller, which was hilarious.
so yeah for me. 4.3 out of 5

Stalker
A fascinating piece of art which requires patience and an appreciation for poetic dialogue and film work. Stunning cinematography and a pacing that makes Barry Lyndon seems like a fast paced thriller. It's easy to understand why Tarkovsky is called The Stanley Kubrick of Russia. If you barely made it through 2001: A Space Odyssey you'd better steer well clear, but for those who don't mind spending two and an half hours watching a slow moving sci-fi with more brains than brawns I heartily recommend it! There Will Be Goosebumps.

Plan 9 From Outer Space
At first hilariously bad, but ends up being so mediocre near the end it's no even amusing. Especially entertaining if you've seen Tim Burton's Ed Wood first.
5/10 (Entertainment value, not overall quality!)

Bronson.
An utterly weird film. It was a part biography of one of Britain's most <insert word> criminals ever and it came across as part theatrical experience, part biography and part autobiography.
I watched it with all my housemates and we spent a good part of it laughing our heads off wondering if that was the intention or not.
It was pretty good, but definitely one of the weirdest biographies I've ever seen.

I've finally seen Up.
Here in Norway the only version being shown where I'm studying is the dubbed one. Not amusing. So instead of seeing a butchered edition I contacted the management and had them set up a private screening for me, my girlfriend and my friends. So worth it.
First, the film. Pixar has really hit its stride and delivers a title that almost surpasses their previous masterpiece Wall E. An emotional roller-coaster that had me crying behind my nifty 3D shades and smiling from ear to ear. Often at the same time. I really can't recommend this film enough, and even though it feels a bit drawn between the main set pieces that doesn't detract from what is definitely a contender for the best movie Oscar. Art and entertainment perfectly intertwined and the first film I've seen since Gran Torino where I never checked my watch to see how much was left.
9/10
Now, for a little evaluation of 3D. This is my first 3D film and I noticed both pros and cons with the technique. The good part is that being able to see the depth in the picture is extremely cool and works terrifically for Up. Some of the shots look like a real claymation model being worked right in front of your eyes.
There are a few downers too though. First of all the glasses issued weren't terribly comfortable, and put far too much pressure on my nose and ears leaving red marks by the time the film ended. They also dimmed the light slightly making night time shots hard to make out. And lastly the picture wasn't quite as clear as with 2D. Some shots struggled to reveal detail, and while sharpness was nice throughout there were some shots that didn't benefit from the 3D treatment.
On the whole though I reckon it's mostly just a gimmick. By the end of the film i didn't noticed the 3D at all and I'm sure I'd have enjoyed it just as much without.

Agreed Bronson is mental. Tom Hardy is excellent in it though. It's got a real Clockwork Orange feel to it...
And Kaviar, I'm glad you enjoyed Up as much as I did

Good man! What did you think of the film, more than a score? What did you make of the Black and White? Of the weird WTF ending?
I watched
Who framed Roger Rabbit
A Rebel Without A Cause
Bothwere more than excellent films, Roger Rabit particularly so.

I think the ending and most of the stuff with the girl was a figment of Travis' imagination. McDowell's performance was fantastic. The colour switching had a great effect, the black and white tended to be used to contrast the extremes of tradition and fantasy from the rest of the film's reality, or at least that's what I gathered. Excellent portrayal of some very seriously horrid boarding school culture along with some surrealist shit = rad film.

Damn straight!
Ha, the balck and white sections were actually black and white becuase the film had financing issues, an english film in the 60's with gunfire, explosions etc...black and white apparently has o metaphorical significance in the slightest, though, of course, we can ask why the director chose to film these specific scenes in B+W...
And yeah,Mcdowell is extraordinary, you know Kubrick watched this film 16 times, then decided that he was right for Clockwork orange?
Yeah, in context, extraordinary film.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
A pulpy noir set in 1940s Hollywood, with bugs bunny and Mickey Mouse on screen at the same time. There will never be a film like this again. Simply wonderful,my favourite animated film.
