Julian Casablancas - Phrazes For The Young

Awesome album. Much better than the rest of The Strokes members, 'like the Strokes but not as good', solo albums. Grr, now I want the new Strokes album more than ever, god knows if they'll ever finish it No

Sufjan Stevens- The BQE

Not only a glorious album, but extra commendation goes to it for reminding me about viewmasters.

Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions

Immense. No more needs to be said other than Bubbles is mint, Many of Horror is beautiful, and Cloud of Stink is mental.

9/10, best album since VoB. Mon the Biffy.

My favourite album is Infinity Land.

Also, I thought you hated Bubbles?

Infinity Land and Vertigo are equally awesome imo. It sounds like they've genuinely gone back to their amazing old self, that I once loved so much.

EDIT: What am I talking about? I completely forgot about Blackened Sky, which definitely has all my favorite Biffy songs on it. Just listening to Many of Horror acoustic on Youtube. Sounds fucking great.

Casey where did you get Only Revolutions? Download?

Hate Bubbles? I think you're getting a bit mixed up Fraser. Loved it since it first aired. Sure you don't mean The Captain, which I didn't like initially?

And Jamie, my copy came early Smile On their myspace to stream though.

PS: Forgot to mention, although it is heavier and more disjointed than Puzzle, OR is the furthest thing from Biffy's roots to date... just a warning to those of you holding out for another Blackened Sky. Evolution for ya I guess!

As for Biffy albums, VoB > Blackened Sky = Only Revolutions > Infinity Land > Puzzle. All great though.

At the end of the day, The Captain is essentially a decent pop song. I'd say that and Mountains are the weaker tracks on the album. Mountains just doesn't fit in.

It's been a good year or so since I started listening to Untrue and I still can't decide if I like it or not.

I love most of that album as individual tracks, can never sit and listen to the whole thing though.

I like Placebo, in a glam rock Nirvana esque sorta way.

I actually love Nirvana though, listening to them Live at Reading on Spotify, and my it sounds good.

Care to elaborate a little? That Golden Rule, Bubbles, God & Satan, Born on a Horse, Shock Shock, Many of Horror, Boom Blast and Ruin, Cloud of Stink, Know Your Quarry and Whorses are all better songs... so what's the issue?

Gave the album a listen yesterday. Twice. Yeh its pretty good, but not what I really want from Biffy tbh. A few great songs on it (Born on a Horse, Many of Horror etc.) lift it up a bit, but I do still feel let down by some of the stuff. I don't like God & Satan very much, and the lyrics sound like some sort of joke. It's a great album in comparison to most stuff, but still not on par with the original Biffmeister.

Blackened Sky > Vertigo of Bliss > Infinity Land > Only Revolutions > Puzzle.

7/10, would be my overall opinion of it. Still, probably one of the better albums of the year. Certainly in my top 10. There have been a couple of new bands releasing really great debut albums this year, The XX being the one that automatically springs to mind.

I stand by my initial scoring of OR but you raise some good points. It isn't 'classic Biffy', but then again neither is VoB/Infinity Land, as they are constantly evolving. Would you agree with me when I say that Mountains just doesn't belong on the tracklist? I'd have preferred it if they'd have kept Pocket in instead.

I do agree with you. Mountains is too...well its too bland really. Too straight forward, it doesn't twist like a Biffy song should. And that's kinda the problem I have with the entire album...
