I've been meaning to see Moon. Gonna wait for the blu-ray to fall to £15 or so.

Technically out in 2009 US, so its going here. I tink this could be one of the films of the year, will probably clean up at the Oscars, and can anyone else see Damon getting the Best Actor? Or Freeman whoever is nominated in that position...

Dude.

You should be happy that a film about rugby is being made. And really, the game scenes look fucking good! Eastwood is a fantastic director, arent you happy you're sport is being represented in a most likely oscar winning film?

Quoted, because the irony in this sentence makes me LOL.

It's only 16 on release.

I've pre-ordered it, it never hit the cinemas over here. confused

And Fraser, I know what you mean about games having so much potential. Problem is they have to stop trying to use the same dramaturgical scale as film and break off into new territory. So few games really take advantage of the artistic possibilities of the medium and those with decent stories are structured just like your average film. It's still an incredibly young medium, just think of where film was in the 40's compared to now!

That's kind of why I get annoyed when people fellate stuff like Uncharted 2. There's nothing groundbreaking about it. To me it's the incredibly polished, ball-achingly linear epitome of why games are still shit.

At least the Russians are trying to do something about it.

There's this pressure on games to live up to the traditional definition of the word - rule based amusements - and though that may have been far harder to escape in the past, there's now no excuse. Interactivity has not been properly exploited, but I fear games will take longer to find their feet than film did purely because they draw so much from that medium. It's not even like the variety of game designers' cinematic inspirations is good - "oh, we watched Tarantino/Aliens/Star Wars/Indiana Jones". I'm also worried that thanks to the existence of GAF, people are scared to interesting things. If your game doesn't have lives, a thousand collectibles and killing dudes at a rate of fifteen per second in it it's automatically ruled "not hardcore enough" or "pointless".

Fuck the internet.

I fucking hate how videogames stick to outdated formulas that limit the medium. Let me make a fucking game, I'll show you cunts how its done.

Is that the best sentence about games ever written?

I'm cooking up my own design doc. In my mind it's the best thing ever.

I wouldn't want to make a videogame myself, I'd make it far too cinematic with forced camera angles ala Uncharted 2, which I incidentally finished last night. Will give it a write up in the other thread.

Luc Besson's done, man. He always said he'd direct 10 films, and he's done it. He's said he may renege on that promise later but for now he's sticking to writing and producing and doesn't see that changing.

I ain't seen much this year. In fact I've only seen Inglorious Basterds, The Hangover, The Wrestler and Terminator: Salvation.

Out of those my list is:

1. Inglorius Basterds
2. The Wrestler
3. The Hangover
... and Terminator should be way down somewhere.
